GrimDark Careers, Compiled!

After rolling up Crumpmutch Rumplebreek the lovable halfling vagabond, it is now time to add the experience points necessary to bring him close to the level of the rest of the party he’ll be joining. The average character in the group has 5,100 XP, with the lowest among them being 4,650. Based on that, I was given 4,600 XP to work with.

My end goal is to join the Spy career, but first with a stop-over as a Rapscallion – a social rogue career that was introduced in the Career Compendium.

First of all, to move on from being a Vagabond, I have to pick up 8 advances from that career (800 XP), then spend 100 XP to change careers.

The Vagabond advances (at 5% / 100 XP) are +5 WS, +10 BS, +10 Ag, +5 Int, +5 Fel, +2 W.

The Rapscallion has a lot of skills and talents (at 100 XP each) to pick up. Fortunately, a number of these are already covered by the Vagabond career, and I only need to pick up Streetwise, Sixth Sense, and Swashbuckler from the Talents; as well as the skills Charm, Consume Alcohol, Dodge Blow, Evaluate, Gamble, Lip Reading, Search, Sleight of Hand and Swim. Although I might come back here if I have any XP left after picking up some spy skills because there are a few skills available that I wouldn’t mind improving (picking up an extra +10% to gossip and perception could be handy).

The Rapscallion stat advances are +10 WS, +5 BS, +5 S, +15 T, +25 Ag, +10 Int, +10 WP, +30 Fel, +1 A, +4 W. That’s a pretty expensive package totalling out at 3,100 XP. Combined with the 900 XP spent on the Vagabond career, this leaves me with *just* enough XP to start on the spy career, but not to do much with it.

Another 100 XP gets me into the Spy career with 500 XP to spend on advances there. I pick up the Suave talent for a +5 to Fellowship (since the Spy gets less Fellowship advances than the rapscallion did), and the skills of Disguise, Pick Lock, Shadowing and Charm.
