After going through my first year of Heavy Metal magazines last week, I also dug up my old first year of Ares magazine – I picked up the full run when I was a hardcore Traveller and Star Frontiers completionist. So on Wednesday I’m laughing at the reviews in issue 1, and sit down and scan them for the blog, planning to post them sometime next week.
Then today, James at Grognardia posted an article with excerpts of those same reviews.
So, for those of you who don’t have these moldy oldies in their RPG collection, I present to you the historical archives from Ares magazine. In the rush to condemn D&D, they make some bizarre comments about other games – like saying that Traveller (as a second-generation RPG) doesn’t require a Game Master.
(Reviews of Villains & Vigilantes, Metamorphosis Alpha, Chivalry & Sorcery and of course Dungeons and Dragons are below the fold)
