After the various discussions and experiments with one-hour maps in late January, I tried my hand at two maps – one to see how long it takes me to draw a full map with my trademark crosshatching and stuff, and one without the crosshatching (adding the crosshatching digitally afterwards).
It turns out that it takes me just over 2 hours to put together a full map in my traditional style. I tried to be as quick as possible, but couldn’t get it done any faster. However, I attempted to draw an equivalent map without the crosshatching in under one hour, but found it less… fun. I like the crosshatching and find it relaxing.
Hell, on this one I also added dirt and rocks to my usual cross-hatching.
I’ll post the one-hour map tomorrow. But for today, here’s my 2 hour masterpiece, the Ruins of the Gorgon.
I love your crosshatching how do you do it?
Thanks! My cross-hatching is purely free-hand – pen on paper.
That looks really good. I especially like your tree. Is the white area surrounding “C” a natural cavern, or just whitespace for the label? I would take it as a cavern if there was a connected entrance.
Thanks. I really like it.
And that’s just whitespace.
Sweet. aaaaaaaaaaand . . . saved for printing later on. Thank you.
That’s a handsome map. I love cutaways and side-views.
Great-looking map. I’m already mentally stocking it for my players.
I love these little two or three hour playable maps with the side views!!!
Each one of these has such good cinema and implies such great story!! They make me want to brush off my B/X set and run some “you are at the point of leaving the farm, this is what happened last summer to motivate you toward your preferred class…”
WOW!!! Dyson, you just keep raising the bar….I really like the rocks and gravel filler, the trees and even the weeds. Great little touches that add so much to the overall feel of the map. Great work wildman…!!!
I’ve just discovered this map, and while it is designed for a fantasy game, for a little creative writing, it makes for a perfectly fine ruined laboratory or bunker for a PA game.
Absolutely. I actually used it for the same purpose myself a few months ago.

Just had to mention that I’m retasking this map as a tubecar station in Empire of the Petal Throne.
