There is a cave not far from town that most of populace knows about – about thirty feet into it is a cold freshwater stream that runs even in the driest of summers. But beyond the stream are more caves, and beyond those caves are the signs that something else has been here before the townfolk. Old doors block older chambers carved into the rock unknown ages ago… beyond Cricket stream.

Beyond Cricket Stream
If you are a fan of hand-drawn maps like the above, check out my first collection of such maps, adventures and dungeons – Dyson’s Delves – available in hardcover and softcover.
I love this map and the lead-in (set up?).
Just received my Hardcover “Dyson’s Delves” yesterday…
I am so pumped about the infusion of new creativity this will put in my game.
Yet another cool map. I love the style: clean yet approachable.
As always, yet another inspiration for more adveture.
Cheers.
Thanks for the fantastic map for me to brainstorm over, Dyson!!
I like this a lot; looks like the beginnings of a temple or tomb complex!! I see a giant crayfish hiding in the water and I think I can make out a mimic residing in the northern-most room. Still debating on what to do with the partially caved-in room… a small colony of piercers mayhaps. And of course, some giant crickets HAVE to go somewhere; it is Cricket Stream after all!!
Nice. I really do prefer small lairs to megadungeons, though this obviously could be the entry to something much bigger.
Looking at this, I wondered why the people in the area hadn’t looted the dungeon before. Maybe it’s only just been reveal as erosion ate away at the rock, and now word has come back from a shepherd trailing a lost animal of chambers with weird carvings and frescoes on the walls… Perhaps, at it’s heart, it’s haunted by the ghost of a sorcerer from a long-forgotten, more powerful age, and he doesn’t appreciate being disturbed.
Very inspirational. 🙂
Perhaps the door at the top of the stairs is sealed and none of the villagers has learned the Knock spell… and no one has had the balls to explore the other passage?
That works, too. 🙂
