Green Pilgrim over on the Cartographer’s Guild site has taken a pair of my smaller maps and made them into 3D maps using Google Sketchup.

Raven’s Ruins – Now 3D!
He started with Oathbreaker’s Hall from Dyson’s Delves, and went whole-hog with it making it into not only a nice 3D map, but taking the extra step of doing a video walk-through of the dungeon itself.

Oathbreaker’s Hall 3D
He then put up a short tutorial on how to do it yourself, using Raven’s Ruins as the sample dungeon.
Very cool.

That may very well be one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen…
Holy compliment Batman! I hope you are very proud of yourself.
Looks very cool. I can’t remember which video game it was, but you could code in your own environments and have your friends go through them. We took one of our own dungeons and coded it in. It was very cool to see.
And as if your maps weren’t cool enough, you are taking over another whole other dimension!
I totally agree with Tim S; changing your maps into 3D just increases the overall awsomeness of your maps! And the walk-through…. I see big things developing for DM’s to impress their players. I wonder if a “fog or war” element could be added for use on Roll20 or similar on-line platforms?
Thanks for the great post, Master Dyson!
Hrm. The next thing to do is set the geomorphs up as blocks within sketchup, so you can just add them in entire.
Glad that you liked the 3-D versions of your maps! They are great designs. It was really fun to give them that third layer of detail so people could see just how fantastic the map is. I’m still working on adding “floors” to the designs like you have in your maps where a tunnel passes under a chamber and such but I’ll get there.
Really great to hear that you liked my version of your maps!
