Normally mines are far more extensive than these, but the majority of these mines were converted into more typical dwarven structures, leaving only the unobtainium mines on the northwest face of a large underground cave.
These mines are meant to be linked to another dwarven stronghold, perhaps part of the fallen dwarven fortress of Kuln (as hinted at in the Challenge of the Frog Idol).
These dwarven mines were drawn in two drafts (pencil then inked) on standard graph paper using a standard mechanical pencil and then micron pens. They were then scanned and image enhanced in photoshop.
The dwarven mines are free for your non-commercial use (as indicated on the copyright page) thanks to Gaelan D’costa, Udo Femi, Chris Blauwkamp, Shane Knysh and the other patrons of the Dodecahedron who support the site and these creations financially through my Patreon Campaign.

Hey, just want to say I’m going to use this for a champain with some friends. I couldn’t have drawn a better map (and if I could I don’t have the time) so thank you for helping out 🙂

this will be used next week as part of my dwarven underdark and be the goblin mines
I combined “To the Mines!” (https://dysonlogos.blog/2011/03/25/friday-map-to-the-mines-an-experiment-with-grids/) with this map. The tunnel on “Mines” flows directly here.
It ended up being a huge part of my campaign. The party cleared out the fortress section which was inhabited by a group of kobolds. Then, advancing into the mines, they found that they were overrun by drow using undead and irradiated dwarves to mine smoky quartz.
After about 6 sessions total, the party cleared the mine and has turned it into their own fortress. They’re just beginning to get some smoky quartz from the ground and turn a profit, but they have to deal with a nearby rift to the Shadowfell, and a hobgoblin fortress in the next mountains over.
At any rate, your maps are fantastic and I owe you a huge debt of gratitude for making such amazing artwork!
Using this as a dwarven mine that has a mindwitness in it somewhere. It had attacked the dwarf stronghold with some deep gnomes that had been mind controlled into obeying. They’ll have to get to it before it escapes.
One tunnel leads to the stronghold the other to the underdark.
