I just threw together this quick graphic that puts all the lower level maps from the MegaDelve into one place.
It should fit almost exactly on to three sheets of standard US letter sized paper at this size.

Lower Levels Combined Map

Very nice looking. But what springs out to me are the two points where players have no other choice than going down a straight corridor if they want to progress at all. In a dungeon with any intelligent opposition, these would be spots that would most likely be defended or trapped, leaving the players no other options than walking straight into a fight or turn around and leave the dungeon. I always try to avoid these except for very small sections of rooms off the “main trails”. Even if those choke points are safe to pass through with nothing happening to the PCs, they take away the players options to chose their own strategies and judge the risk of potential dangers.
I would probably add two additional passages that allow the players to pick which one they want to take, but otherwise it’s a really amazingly impressive looking map.
I see what you mean, but here’s some rationale behind it.
The map here is made up of 12 maps distributed over about seven distinct “nodes” of the dungeon. Of those nodes, only one has only a single access point (the muck dwellers node). Many of the nodes have access points to upper levels of the dungeon (two also have access to lower levels of the dungeon), while others have outside access. (two have outside access, seven have upstairs access, two have downstairs access). Effectively granting nine different ways into this map, spread across the whole thing.
Those chokepoints operate basically like stairs do in a regular dungeon, distinguishing between one node and another.
I am tempted to have each level of the mega delve printed at poster size and framed. Absolutely outstanding Dyson! Just amazing to watch the process and see the result.
Reblogged this on Locating Frankenstein's Brain.
That is really slick! Crazy how big it is when it is all put together. Nicely done!
Wait until you see it with the other 19 maps layered on.
🙂
It’s a monsterpiece.
I have just a minor question floating inside my head: These maps don’t have the same scale, do they? If they don’t (which it seems), will you add a scale for each one? or will make a group scale? (like: the upper maps are 5’/square; the middle ones are 20’/square; and so on)
I *think* I remembered to draw the 20′ scale on the maps that use it (namely the three maps of the mines proper). When the whole set goes to print those scale markers will be in place.
Any chance of the large map with some red lines to show the separate sections?
Not at this point, sorry.
I’ve actually had to tweak this a bit while putting together the “Final” map which includes all 31 maps. I made some mistakes regarding positioning, and had to wiggle some maps around a bit and change some of the connectors to make it all fit properly.
