Every month that Patreon funding remains over the $400 mark I sift through my back catalog and bring up a selection of maps that my patrons then vote on as to which will be released under the free commercial-use license.
This month the voting was tight, but the choice was finally made and Wolf Tower is back from October of 2014, but now available under the free commercial license. I also took a bit of time to clean up the scan and remove some speckling that stuck around from the original paper it was drawn on.
The Wolves are a secretive warrior-cult typically pictured fighting with “long knives” (short swords) in both hands. They operate within military forces, tribal warrior bands, city guards and wherever career warriors are to be found. Membership numbers rise and fall, and many members are unaware of religious implications of their “band of brothers” until they are initiated into the higher orders. The “true membership” (those who understand that they are a religious group and who have been involved in at least two rituals involving the Dire Wolf, their god) numbers around a thousand at any one time.
The heart of the organization is Wolf Tower, a small fortified tower in the middle of the territory of an otherwise nomadic hunting tribe. While the tower itself is fairly unremarkable, there is a secret chamber beneath the tower that was once the den of a mighty dire wolf and her pups that is used to this day to commune with the spirit of the great Dire Wolf.
The wolves are a very lightly reskinned version of the various warrior cults that many space marines got involved in prior to the Horus Heresy.
They can easily become the Brothers of the Bear or the Cave Bears (with the den having been a cave bear den or even a bugbear lair that they intentionally misrepresent). Or the Spears, named after an ancient flint-headed artifact spear that they found down here and thus equipping themselves with javelins and spears instead of short swords.
This map is made available to you under a free license for personal or commercial use under the “RELEASE THE KRAKEN” initiative thanks to the awesome supporters of my Patreon Campaign. Over 400 awesome patrons have come together to fund the site and these maps, making them free for your use.
Because of the incredible generosity of my patrons, I’m able to make this map free for commercial use also. Each month while funding is over the $400 mark, we choose a map from the blog’s extensive back catalog to retroactively release under this free commercial license. You can use, reuse, remix and/or modify the maps that are being published under the commercial license on a royalty-free basis as long as they include attribution (“Cartography by Dyson Logos” or “Maps by Dyson Logos”). For those that want/need a Creative Commons license, it would look something like this:
Cartography by Dyson Logos is licensed
under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.
I need to collect all your wonderful towers and run Anomalous Subsurface Environment and the Land of 1,000 Towers.
Reblogged this on Iho's Chronicles.
